You Deserve Better
Creating a medium for you
We ask of our colleagues what we demand of ourselves.
We all know acknowledgement receipt ping-pong is a sport - and one to take seriously.
And don’t forget:
Always be closing.
You know how it goes. It’s our culture.
High standards, instant replies, relentless outcomes.
Beneath the scale that weighs heavy is something heavier: our high expectations fall short when it comes to our own needs.
I tried to find mediums and spaces built for lawyers - to help us stay alive and connected to the commercial world. What I discovered was disappointment and walled gardens.
That’s why I started Duly Noted. A medium to pause. To reflect. To sharpen judgment.
To connect.
We recently passed 100 subscribers. A small number in internet terms, but to me it feels like a special club - partners, GCs, associates, trainees, founders, investors, even a few doctors and bankers - all choosing to stop for a few minutes each week to think.
Some of you have already suggested where I should take Duly Noted next. Not everything will happen at once, but the message is clear - Duly Noted is here to serve.
Here’s what you can expect as a minimum:
One fortnight: a reflection. Sparse, personal, like The Years That Shape You. That seemed to really resonate with readers in ways I could not have imagined.
The next: a deeper dive into the currents reshaping business. It won’t be about law firm hires, salary wars, or “AI platforms taking over” etc. Something sharper. Something that bends back in our direction.
Because you deserve better.
✍️ Note to self: The “urgent and important” things rarely shout. They wait - and they wither if you do nothing. You’re important too.
